Cycle of Giving: Donate, Empower, Build Community!

4000+ bikes given away and counting…

“It’s for the kid who doesn’t have a bike to ride with their friends, the ex-con who just got a job who doesn’t have the money to ride the T, and for people to exercise when they can’t go to the gym.”

Lonnell Wells, co-founder of Cambridge Bike Give Back.

The idea for Cambridge Bike Give Back came to life in July 2020. It was initiated by the murder of George Floyd and the protests that followed.

After attending all the protests, we realized that we wanted to do something more. We wanted to also find a way to support the community and improve people’s lives.

Our idea was to provide free bikes to kids as well adults that need them to get around the city or get to work. We are getting bikes from donations, refurbishing them and giving them away for free. Since the project started we have given away more than 4000 bikes.

Besides working on refurbishing bikes, we are also focusing on bringing awareness to kids and their parents about social justice issues as well as healthy lifestyle and the benefits of biking. So far, we’ve participated in over 50 events in the Cambridge and Boston area to spread awareness about biking, give bikes, helmets, and food away, and provide a chance to get bikes fixed for free.

If you’d like to support us, please donate money or a bike repair service. You can also support us by purchasing a Cambridge Bike Give Back sweatshirt or t-shirt. All the proceeds go towards maintaining our space, supporting events, repairing bikes, or buying spare parts, helmets and locks for people.
